NOVA Asylum Policy Lab celebrou data em evento com a PAR e a JRS | NOVA Asylum Policy Lab celebrated the date at an event with PAR and JRS

Desde o ano 2000, no dia 20 de junho, o mundo celebra a força e a coragem das pessoas que foram forçadas a deixar o seu país de origem devido a perseguições: os chamados refugiados/as. O Dia Mundial do/a Refugiado/a foi assinalado pelo Alto Comissariado das Nações Unidas para homenagear as pessoas refugiadas em todo o mundo.

Em 2023, o NOVA Asylum Policy Lab juntou-se à Plataforma de Apoio de Refugiados (PAR) e ao Serviço Jesuíta aos Refugiados (JRS) na promoção de um evento, ocorrido na data comemorativa na Universidade Nova de Lisboa – Campus de Campolide, sob o tema “Solidariedade sem Fronteiras, um Mundo sem Barreiras”. 

Na oportunidade, foi apresentado o documentário “A última fronteira” (The last frontier), de André Carvalho Ramos, jornalista da CNN Portugal, no Salão Nobre do Colégio Almada Negreiros. O documentário mostra as diferentes políticas da Europa para as pessoas carecidas de proteção internacional e pode ser assistido aqui.

Após a exibição do documentário, os presentes puderam assistir a dois painéis, que contaram com as presenças de Drª. Isabel Rodrigues, Secretária de Estado da Integração e das Migrações; André Costa Jorge, Diretor-Geral do JRS e Coordenador da PAR; Ana França, jornalista do Expresso; Emellin de Oliveira, consultora e membro-fundador do NOVA Asylum Policy Lab e investigadora do CEDIS/Nova School of Law; Miguel Duarte, representante dos HUBB – Humans Before Borders; Ibrahim Diakite, pessoa refugiada da Costa do Marfim; Ghalia Taki, coordenadora da Bolsa de Intérpretes do JRS; e Sandra Sommer, voluntária das Comunidades de Hospitalidade.            

A tarde de debates ficou marcada pelos depoimentos de Ghalia Taki, oriunda de Damasco (Síria) e em Portugal desde 2014, e de Siraj Ibrahim, natural da Eritreia e em Portugal desde 2011, ambos recebidos no país no âmbito da proteção internacional e com histórico de resiliência diante das dificuldades de integração numa nova sociedade.

Since 2000, on 20 June, the world has celebrated the strength and courage of people who have been forced to leave their home country due to persecution: the so-called refugees. World Refugee Day was marked by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner to honour refugees around the world.

In 2023, the NOVA Asylum Policy Lab joined the Refugee Support Platform (PAR) and the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) in promoting an event, which took place on the commemorative date at Universidade Nova de Lisboa – Campolide Campus, under the theme “Solidarity without Borders, a World without Barriers”.

On that occasion, the documentary “The last frontier” (The last frontier), by André Carvalho Ramos, journalist of CNN Portugal, was presented in the Salão Nobre of Colégio Almada Negreiros. The documentary shows Europe’s different policies towards people in need of international protection and can be watched here.

After the screening of the documentary, attendees were able to attend two panels, which featured the presence of Dr Isabel Rodrigues, Secretary of State for International Protection. Isabel Rodrigues, Secretary of State for Integration and Migration; André Costa Jorge, Director-General of JRS and Coordinator of PAR; Ana França, journalist at Expresso; Emellin de Oliveira, consultant and founding member of NOVA Asylum Policy Lab and researcher at CEDIS/Nova School of Law; Miguel Duarte, representative of HUBB – Humans Before Borders; Ibrahim Diakite, a refugee from Côte d’Ivoire; Ghalia Taki, coordinator of the JRS Interpreters’ Exchange; and Sandra Sommer, volunteer of the Hospitality Communities.

The afternoon of debates was marked by the testimonies of Ghalia Taki, from Damascus (Syria) and in Portugal since 2014, and Siraj Ibrahim, from Eritrea and in Portugal since 2011, both received in the country under international protection and with a history of resilience in the face of the difficulties of integrating into a new society.
