[EN] In addition to 10 March (legislative elections in Portugal) and 09 June (elections to the European Parliament), other dates in 2024 could be relevant for immigrants and beneficiaries of international protection in Portugal.

To illustrate, on 4 February there will be the election of the members of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores!

Did you know that, like citizens of Portuguese nationality, citizens of Brazilian nationality with the statute of equal political rights and who are resident and registered in the territory of the Autonomous Region of the Azores have active electoral capacity, i.e. they can vote? More info here.

According to AIMA – the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum, in order for a Brazilian citizen to apply for Equal Political Rights Status, they must fulfil the following requirements:

• Have previously obtained the Statute of Equal Rights and Duties;
• Not be deprived of political rights in Brazil;
• Have been a legal resident, with a valid residence card, for at least three (3) years.

In addition: foreign citizens living in the parish of Alverca and Concavada (Abrantes/Santarém) will be able to take part in the election of the Parish Assembly, to be held on 18 February, provided they are registered in the Portuguese electoral register. More info here.

In the case of local elections, as the National Electoral Commission explains, foreign citizens can register to vote if they are over 17 years old and national of :

• A Member State of the European Union (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden);
• United Kingdom, with residence in Portugal prior to Brexit;
• Brazil (without equal political rights status) and Cape Verde, with legal residence in Portugal for more than 2 years;
• Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Iceland, Norway, New Zealand, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela or from the United Kingdom after Brexit, with legal residence in Portugal for more than 3 years.

Para ilustrar, ter-se-á no dia 04 de fevereiro a eleição dos deputados da Assembleia Legislativa da Região Autónoma dos Açores!

Sabia que, tal como os/as cidadãos/ãs de nacionalidade portuguesa, cidadãos/ãs de nacionalidade brasileira com estatuto de igualdade de direitos políticos e que sejam residentes e recenseados/as no território da Região Autónoma dos Açores têm capacidade eleitoral ativa, ou seja, podem votar? Segundo a AIMA – Agência para a Integração, Migrações e Asilo, para que um/a cidadão/ã Brasileiro/a possa requerer o Estatuto de Igualdade de Direitos Políticos, deverá preencher cumulativamente os seguintes requisitos:

• Ter obtido previamente o Estatuto de Igualdade de Direitos e Deveres;
• Não se encontrar privado dos direitos políticos no Brasil;
• Ser residente legal, com título válido, há, pelo menos, três (3) anos.

Ainda: os/as cidadãos/as estrangeiros/as domiciliados/as na freguesia de Alverca e Concavada (Abrantes/Santarém) poderão participar da eleição da Assembleia de Freguesia, a ter lugar no dia 18 de fevereiro, desde que inscritos/as no recenseamento eleitoral português. Mais info aqui.

No caso das eleições autárquicas, e como esclarece a Comissão Nacional de Eleições, podem inscrever-se no recenseamento eleitoral os/as cidadãos/ãs estrangeiros/as que tenham mais de 17 anos e que sejam nacionais:

• De um Estado-Membro da União Europeia (Alemanha, Áustria, Bélgica, Bulgária, Chipre, Croácia, Dinamarca, Eslováquia, Eslovénia, Espanha, Estónia, Finlândia, França, Grécia, Holanda, Hungria, Irlanda, Itália, Letónia, Lituânia, Luxemburgo, Malta, Polónia, República Checa, Roménia e Suécia); 
• Do Reino Unido, com residência em Portugal anterior ao Brexit;
• Do Brasil (sem estatuto de igualdade de direitos políticos) e Cabo Verde, com residência legal em Portugal há mais de 2 anos;
• Da Argentina, Chile, Colômbia, Islândia, Noruega, Nova Zelândia, Peru, Uruguai e Venezuela ou do Reino Unido após o Brexit, com residência legal em Portugal há mais de 3 anos.
