O NOVA Asylum Policy Lab teve a honra de debater e refletir com o André Biveti, da AFROLIS, e o Rickson Neves, da UECL – União dos Estudantes Cabo-verdianos de Lisboa, sobre o direito ao voto e a questão da reciprocidade.

Nesta conversa, destacou-se, por um lado, a relação histórica entre Portugal e os PALOP e, por outro, as questões político-jurídicas que levam ao facto de vários estrangeiros residentes em Portugal não terem direito ao voto nas eleições legislativas. Falou-se, ainda, da participação política numa vertente mais genérica e das vantagens e desvantagens dos acordos de reciprocidade.

NOVA Asylum Policy Lab had the honour of debating and reflecting with André Biveti, from AFROLIS, and Rickson Neves, from UECL – the Union of Cape Verdean Students of Lisbon, on the right to vote and the issue of reciprocity.

The talk emphasised the historical relationship between Portugal and the PALOP countries, on the one hand, and the political and legal issues that led to many foreigners living in Portugal not having the right to vote in legislative elections, on the other. There was also a discussion about political participation in general and the advantages and disadvantages of reciprocity agreements.
